What is California State Flag?

The flag of California features a white background with a red stripe along the bottom edge of the flag. In the upper hoist-side corner (near the flagpole), there is a red five-pointed star. Inside the star is a red and white circular emblem known as the California Bear Flag.

The California Bear Flag consists of a brown grizzly bear walking on a green grassy field. The bear is facing left (toward the hoist side) and has a red tongue and red claws. Above the bear, there is a red banner with the words “California Republic” written in white.

The design of the California State Flag is inspired by the original Bear Flag, which was raised during the short-lived California Republic in 1846. The flag was officially adopted as the state flag in 1911. The grizzly bear represents strength and the California Republic era, while the red stripe symbolizes courage. The flag is a prominent symbol of California’s history and identity.
