The Curecanti Needle, a famous landmark, can be seen directly across the river.

What To Do in Curecanti Creek, Gunnison:

  • Hike the scenic trail that follows Curecanti Creek to Morrow Point Lake
  • Take in the majestic views down into the Black Canyon of the Gunnison
  • Cross the creek twice on sturdy bridges
  • Witness the stunning beauty of the Curecanti Needle across the river
  • Enjoy a picnic in the designated picnic area
  • Keep an eye out for wildlife such as mountain lions and bears
  • Bring plenty of water, sunblock, chapstick, and a camera

As I embarked on the trail, I was in awe of the many wildflowers that adorned the path, including huge patches of white blooms of Manyflower Phlox.

The trail was challenging, but the first part of it was more gradual, making it accessible to hikers of all levels.

However, the trail is not for those who don’t like to climb up on the way back to the trailhead.

The hike down to the bottom of the canyon is almost 890 feet in 2 miles, so it’s important to bring more water than you think you could drink during a 4-mile hike.

The trail is well-maintained, but visitors should be aware that it can be significantly warmer at the bottom than at the top.

It’s also important to note that the trail is flooded in some areas during certain times of the year, so it’s best to check ahead before embarking on the hike.

In conclusion, Curecanti Creek is a hiker’s paradise that offers an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts.

The stunning beauty of the Gunnison region, mixed with the challenging but rewarding hike, makes this attraction a must-visit for anyone traveling to Colorado.
