Schuylkill County Historical Society in Pottsville, Pennsylvania is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in history.

As I walked through the museum, I was struck by the incredible displays that showcased the rich history of Schuylkill County from prehistoric times to the present day.

One of the main reasons to visit Schuylkill County Historical Society is the Civil War Room.

The displays in this room are truly impressive, featuring artifacts and information about the Civil War, including a hand-drawn map of Gettysburg by Dr. Jones H. Kauffman, a Minersville physician and assistant surgeon during the war.

I was also fascinated by the story of Edward Baird of Pottsville, who was Assistant Adjutant General to Major General John Reynolds and held Reynolds as he died after being shot on the first day of fighting at Gettysburg.

The museum also features displays on the Molly Maguires, a secret society of Irish miners who were active in the anthracite coal mining boom, the Pottsville Maroons, an original NFL team, and the Dorsey Brothers, Tommy and Jimmy, Big Band Era icons.

There is truly something for everyone here.
