Presidential Trail: A Must-Do Hike at Mount Rushmore

As soon as I arrived at Mount Rushmore, I knew that I was in for a treat.

The monument’s faces of four of America’s most iconic presidents were breathtakingly beautiful.

But what really made my visit special was the Presidential Trail.

This easy paved path at the base of the monument runs clockwise from the Avenue of Flag and is wheelchair accessible.

The trail takes you along the base of the Memorial and affords you some exceptional views of the presidents.

Even though the trail is only about a half-mile loop, it took me the better part of an hour to complete the walk, because I stopped to read the storyboards and to take photos.

When you complete the trail, you end up at the Sculptor’s Studio on the North side of the Avenue of Flag.

Be sure to visit the studio and take in the ranger program.

It is well worth your time.
