Padre Island National Seashore

As I drove my 25′ Class C motorcoach on the beach, I felt the thrill of adventure coursing through me.

I had never experienced anything like this before.

The sand was packed so hard that it felt like driving on gravel roads.

I parked parallel to the water where it was still packed hard, and I saw other campers parked perpendicular with tires in what appeared to be soft sand.

I wasn’t taking any chances.

The surf was loud and constant, creating great white noise for sleeping.

However, I had to be cautious while walking because I couldn’t hear approaching vehicles.

Beach camping was free, but I had to register for a permit.

There were toilets and dumpsters at the north entrance to South Beach.

I saw very few campers further south than about a mile and a half.

My husband drove his pickup 10 miles without driving to 4wd.

Despite the cold and windy weather, I enjoyed walking the beach and taking in the beautiful view from our kitchen table.

The speed bumps entering and leaving were monstrous, but that didn’t dampen my spirits.

Padre Island National Seashore is a great place to go if you love nature and the beach.

Sometimes it’s calm like a lake, and other times you’ll have trouble staying in one place.

It’s especially good in the fall after school starts.

There might only be a few families/singles there all day.

The water is warm, and you never know what you will see from turtles to fish to jellyfish to man-of-wars.

Just be careful not to get stung!

Why You Should Visit Padre Island National Seashore, Texas Gulf Coast

Padre Island National Seashore is a must-visit attraction in the Texas Gulf Coast.

The 70-mile stretch of white sand beach, scenic dunes, and warm ocean water offers ideal conditions for swimming, fishing, beach-combing, windsurfing, camping, bird-watching, and viewing wildlife.

It’s a perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse yourself in nature.

The visitors center, even during Covid 19 observance, was open, and the volunteers were friendly and helpful.

You can explore the beautiful coastline of the Gulf of Mexico and enjoy the pristine beaches.

The sea turtles, shells, and skeletons on display at the exhibit desk are a sight to behold.

The effort taken by the rangers, the local Sealife Aquarium, and locals who rescued thousands of sea turtles from the frigid waters is commendable.

What To Do in Padre Island National Seashore, Texas Gulf Coast

  • Drive on the beach and camp there
  • Swim in the warm ocean water
  • Fish in the Gulf of Mexico
  • Beach-comb and collect shells
  • Windsurf in the scenic dunes
  • Bird-watch and view wildlife
  • Visit the visitors center and explore the exhibits
  • Enjoy a picnic at the picnic tables
  • Watch the waves and relax on the nice beach

Padre Island National Seashore is a barrier island that offers miles and miles of sand dunes and beaches.

You can drive all the way down to the exit area with a beach pass or explore the Malaquite National Forest, which costs $10.00 for a daily pass.

The beach is easy to drive on, but you need to be cautious of strong winds, loud surf, and sunblock.

Trash is minimal, and there are plenty of spaces to spread out even on the busiest weekends of the year.

Cars tend to get bunched up in lines, so it’s recommended to set up as close to the water as possible to create a barrier from traffic.

If you’re a fisherman, you’ll love the Gulf of Mexico.

There’s something for everyone at Padre Island National Seashore.

While the museum is relatively small, there is a wealth of diversity and unique displays.

Despite this, I felt that the museum was worth the $12 admission fee.

Overall, the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History exceeded my expectations.

It offers a surprising variety of subjects, all told with great depth.

Whether you love history or science, there is something for everyone at this museum.

I highly recommend adding it to your itinerary when visiting Texas Gulf Coast.

12. Bob Hall Pier, Corpus Christi

Bob Hall Pier

Bob Hall Pier: A Fishing Haven on Texas Gulf Coast

Bob Hall Pier is the perfect destination for fishing enthusiasts and beach lovers alike.

Located on the Texas Gulf Coast, this attraction offers a unique experience for visitors to enjoy.

Why You Should Visit Bob Hall Pier, Texas Gulf Coast:

The pier is a popular spot for fishing, offering rental poles for those who don’t have their own.

The cost is $20 for rental poles, and $4 to fish.

The pier is long and attracts a lot of people, making it a great place to meet other anglers and exchange tips and tricks.

Even if you don’t catch anything, the experience of fishing on the pier is worth the $3 fee to walk out on it.

The views are stunning, and the pelicans that hang around add to the charm of the place.

What To Do in Bob Hall Pier, Texas Gulf Coast:

  • Rent a fishing pole and try your luck at catching some fish
  • Take a stroll on the pier and enjoy the beautiful views
  • Grab a burger and a beer at Mikel May’s restaurant at the beginning of the pier
  • Check out the surfers doing their thing
  • Take some amazing photos of the pelicans and the waves

I visited Bob Hall Pier on a cool and windy Sunday during my spring break.

The waves were huge and rough, but that didn’t stop the large crowd of visitors from enjoying the pier.

I returned the next day with better weather and was able to fish with fresh dead shrimp.

Although I only caught a few small fish, I had a great time.

I also saw others catch a small hammerhead shark and a large stingray.

The highlight of my trip was watching a guy catch a good size red and clean it right there on the pier.

The pier has a concrete walk all the way around and is in excellent condition after Hurricane Hanna.

It’s plenty wide and has two areas to clean your fish along with running water.

The engineers who designed the pier were brilliant, as they included angled drilled holes in the concrete walk to set your pole at an angle as you wait for a bite.

The area on the T-head where we fished had a hole cut out on the wooden frame to place your pole as well.

It served a dual purpose: one to hold your pole as you wait for a bite and to place your pole while you add more bait.

In conclusion, Bob Hall Pier is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves fishing or just wants to enjoy the beach.

The pier offers a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

Although it’s temporarily closed for construction due to damages from Hurricane Hanna, I can’t wait to return and catch more fish.
