I only saw a few people there, so it felt like I had the whole place to myself.

  • Follow the trail around to the left of the hoodoos, where you will gain a view into a huge valley and also another toadstool “garden” of white rock hoodoos. Fewer tourists for this extra distance.
  • Take a short hike (~1 mile) to get to the first of the toadstools, where most people will stop. But keep going, there’s much more to see.
  • Wear good shoes, as the hike is almost entirely on sand or rocks, so it’s not as easy as it looks.
  • Go early or around sunset because it gets very hot. There is zero shade, so wear a hat and sunscreen and bring lots of water.
  • Take your time and explore the area, there are lots of other rock formations to see along the way.
  • Don’t forget your camera, as the views and the colors and the landscape are wonderful.
