2. Fifth Water Hot Springs, Springville

Fifth Water Hot Springs

Address: Forest Rd 065, Springville, UT 84663, United States

Web: Fifth Water Hot Springs

Google Maps: DIRECTIONS

Fifth Water Hot Springs is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Wasatch Range, Utah.

As I began my hike, I was taken aback by the stunning red dirt, rocks, and unusual rock formations that surrounded me.

The gushing river provided a calming soundtrack as I made my way towards the hot springs.

The trail was mostly even and unchallenging, supported by smooth, wooden rails at times.

Along the way, I saw people hiking back and there were hikers behind me as well.

The trail looked clean and undisturbed.

There were several places along the creek/river where you could get in for a dip.

As I reached the bridge, I knew I was more than halfway to the hot springs.

The first spring was large, forest green, and sat right on the river.

It was warm, but not hot.

There were two guys soaking in it.

We had a brief soak here, then headed up the trail again.

The second set of springs was at a waterfall.

It was pretty hot, and I had to be careful not to burn my feet in some areas that weren’t getting enough cold water.

This area was spacious, and there were about 15 people there, but plenty of room for everybody.

After hanging out in this area for about an hour, I hiked up past the waterfall.

It was a steep path with some rockslide.

There’s a higher path you can take that’s less challenging if you go the opposite direction.

Just about 1/3 mile past the waterfall is the best set of springs!

They are across the river.

There’s a rope/repel down the hill, by the river, about 100 feet from the springs that make it possible to cross the river.

I got really lucky, as there was nobody at these springs when I arrived.

They looked pristine as you can see in the pictures.

I had about 20 minutes to appreciate the springs by myself, and then people started showing up.

A group of 7 college students showed up, barely acknowledging me, just getting in, which made me feel overtaken (LOL) but I worked with them.

They were sweet by finding my lens cap to my camera and showing concern that my camera was getting wet where it sat too close to the spring and river.

After a while, they left, and then a quiet couple showed up.

Then a group of 3 people came along, not acknowledging us, acting entitled to the springs, opening up beers which bothered me because I see hot springs in nature as sacred and feel humbled by the locals who have made this experience possible for we hot-spring-loving travelers.

In fact, somebody artistically carved or drilled a Kokopelli into the rocks.

(See in the pictures).

This group of 3 complained about the heat in the water, not understanding how I could sit in it so long.

I explained that you can get into the cold pool just below the hot spring to cool off, and then get back into the hot and feel comfortable in it for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Another couple of people came along, and then I noticed that the pool was quickly losing heat.

Somebody unblocked the hole that kept cold water from seeping in from the river.

This is when I got up and crossed the creek back to my belongings and left.

If you’re going to venture out to this wonderful, dreamlike setting, please come with respect and understand that people come here for the healing waters and healing experience.

As long as people keep being respectful to the springs and each other, this experience can last a long time.

These hot springs are really, really special because they are on the edge of the cold river.

You can have a traditional, healing hot spring experience here.

You sit in the hot, sweat out some toxins, then get into the cold, completely submerging yourself into the ice-cold water, then get back into the hot pool, take some deep breaths, feel your lungs burn, feel your body tingle, then get out, lay out in the fresh air, get back into the cold, get back into the hot…You will leave rejuvenated and healed.
