National Elk Refuge: A Winter Wonderland of Majestic Creatures

National Elk Refuge in Jackson Hole, Wyoming is a must-visit attraction for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

My recent visit to the refuge during winter was a breathtaking experience.

The highlight of the trip was the 90-minute sleigh ride tour of the elk herds.

The sleigh was pulled by two draft horses and the guide provided informative commentary on the purpose of the refuge and the elk herd.

Although we did not see any huge bulls, the massive herds were a sight to behold.

The sleigh ride was bumpy but worth the $27 fee.

Another must-do activity is the refuge road scenic drive.

We drove past the Jackson hospital and found the large National Elk Refuge sign that led us to the road.

We saw bighorn sheep in close proximity, which was the highlight of our Jackson stay.

The best part is that the drive is free, so there’s no reason to pay for an expensive tour.

Take a blanket with you if it’s cool, or you can purchase one from the ticket booth.

The refuge is a winter habitat for the Jackson elk herd, and hundreds of these majestic creatures can be seen within feet of visitors.

The refuge also provides a home for other animals such as big horn sheep.

The viewing experience is safe and easy despite Covid, with tickets available for purchase online or at the Jackson Hole Visitors Center.

Masks are required, and blankets are not provided due to Covid, so visitors should bundle up and bring their own gloves.

In conclusion, National Elk Refuge is a winter wonderland of majestic creatures that should not be missed.

The refuge is open seasonally, so visitors should check the website for hours of operation.

Whether you choose to take the sleigh ride tour or the refuge road scenic drive, you are guaranteed to have a memorable experience.
